Metal work

  • The main scale contributes the main number(s) and one decimal place to the reading (E.g. 2.1 cm, whereby 2 is the main number and 0.1 is the one decimal place number)
  • The vernier scale contributes the second decimal place to the reading (E.g. 0.03 cm)

Introduction to lathe

A lathe is a machine tool that rotates a work piece about an axis of rotation to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, deformation, facing, and turning, with tools that are applied to the workpiece to create an object with symmetry about that axis

The Centre Lathe

Copper coin Experiment

-clean coin in salt+vinegar solution.
-put 50ml of 2molL NaOH into beaker.
-Heat on Bunsen burner until NEARLY boiling - stir as heating.
Add a spatula of zinc powder.
-Heat lightly for 3min,with coin in-stir as heating.
-Take coin out with tongs
-Rinse coin under water to remove chunks of zinc.
-wave coin in blue flame using tongs

The colour of the coin changed from bronze to a silver colour and when it was under the blue flame it went to a gold colour.

The periodic table

The periodic table 
 The different elements on the periodic table are metals, nonmetals, and gases. 
Metals is coloured blue on the periodic table. Non metals are coloured light green. Gases are coloured yellow.
